How many calories does your coffee contain?
04. September 2020
How many calories does your coffee really contain? Health and above all a conscious and balanced diet are topics that are becoming increasingly important in our society today. Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide. Reason enough to take a closer look at this popular stimulant.
Of course, not all coffees are the same, which, in relation to the way they are prepared, sometimes makes a serious difference in the calorie balance. But what exactly makes a coffee a calorie bomb? We want to get to the bottom of this question in this article.
Calorie trap sugar and milk
The good news first: a plain black coffee or our classic, the Americano, are very low in calories. So body-conscious coffee lovers who prefer to enjoy their favourite drink pure don’t need to worry about this. Let us now turn to the somewhat less good news. Just one teaspoon of sugar (approx. 7 g) adds about 28 extra calories to your coffee per cup. Still sounds relatively harmless, doesn’t it? However, if you like to add a dash of milk to your coffee, you’ll be moving a lot further up the calorie scale (see picture below). By the way, vegetable milk alternatives such as almond milk (24 kcal per 100 ml) do much better at this point than classic whole milk (64 kcal per 100 ml). Nevertheless, as with so many things in life, it always remains a question of quantity. As long as you don’t overdo it, you can continue to enjoy your coffee to the full with milk and sugar.
How many calories are contained in which coffee speciality?
Besides the classic one with milk and sugar, there are of course many other ways to enjoy your coffee. Here too, the higher the proportion of milk and sugar, the more calories are contained. In this table you will find an overview of the calories in the most popular coffee specialities.
Besides milk and sugar there are of course other ways to spice up your coffee (with a few extra calories). Syrups, cream and various toppings are a sinful addition.
Again, however, it all depends on the amount already mentioned. Treating yourself to something now and then is not only good for your taste buds, but also for your well-being. And with an otherwise balanced lifestyle, the odd latte macchiato with tasty flavours won’t harm your figure either. 😉
By the way, you can find really delicious coffee specialities, which are certainly worth a small sin, at our Coffee-Bikes which are active throughout Germany.
